Question

I got my periods on the 25th June 2007, I am 42yrs old. I noticed some brownish discharge on the 3rd and 4th July. even today the 5th there is slight. this has never happened throught these yrs and this is the first time. I am really scared about this can you pls advise why it is like this Tks a bunch

Answer: You might be having an early ovulation , as there is often spotting during ovulation. However, have a pelvic examination done. This will reveal if there is any vaginal or cervical infection, which can give this spotting. Also, have an ultrasound done to reveal if there is a fibroid or an ovarian cyst.

Question

This month I started my period on July 1...and finished on July 4th...which is quite normal for me...a 4 day cycle. I was fine on July 5th, but on July 6th, It seemed like I started again. This time it's not at all heavy....just a very small amount of a pinkish, brownish discharge. Two years ago, I had a chocolate cyst that ruptured and leaked for about 10 days....do you think that this is what it could be again this time? I am experiencing back pain, slight pain in my left side and I feel VERY bloated. I look forward to your response. Thanks!

Answer: You must do a scan to rule out the reappearance of the cyst. Also, .have a pelvic examination done. This will reveal if there is any vaginal or cervical infection, Let me know the results , so I can advice you further.

Question

I've got miscarriage last may 05 2007, and till date i did'nt have my period... how long usually to have period after miscarriage. Thanking you in advance for your kind response

Answer: Usually, you would get a period within 45 days of the miscarriage. If you still have not got a period, check with your doctor.

Question

I was put on Femara for ovulation induction, on day 13 of the cycle, the folicles were not big, but i did feel changes in my body, can a sonar detect if the folice ruptured? or if fertilization took place in day 12 of the cycle?

Answer: Sonar can detect if you have a corpus luteum, indicating that you may have ovulated. However, during the next cycle, have an ultrasound done on day 11 of the cycle to monitor when the follicle is 18 or 20 mm. Ovulation could have taken place on day 12 during this cycle. All the best !

Question

I am 44 years old and scheduled for a partial hysterectomy due to massive figroid problems. They will leave my ovaries and cervics. They did an ultrasould and said I had fibroids in my uterus and saw a cyst on my ovary. I have never had a cyst before and I know it can cause pain. My question is when it burst can it cause a foul smell and discharge?

Answer: Why is a partial hysterectomy to be done and not a complete hysterectomy. There is no point in leaving behind the cervix. if the cyst is still present, I am sure they will remove that, too. The ovaries should be retained , so that you do not experience menopausal symptoms.

Question

I had a missed abortion about 2 weeks ago at 6 weeks and want to leave it to nature to get rid of the contents inside of me.Do not want to go for a dnc.I have had brown nasal like discharge sometimes red blood but mostly dark brown sticky thread like discarge. Please advise

Answer: An ultrasound will detect whether the complete fetus has been expelled or not. If something is still seen within the uterus, you would require a D & C. Also, check with your doctor whether you should take antibiotics to prevent any infection to the uterus.

Question

Hello, Im 21 yrs old.Last year I had an Molar pregnancy and was told to wait 1yr before i tried to get pregnant again.I had my last period April 11..I missed my period May11th i thought due to Stress.I had intercourse May 24th..Today is July 3rd. Still no period.I took 3 pregnancy test all negative. The only thing i can think of as far as symtoms are me sleepin all day long and keeping an dry mouth.I had really bad stomach pains one night but it was gone by the next day!Now today Im having very bad pains in my lower Abdomen on the right side.Im thinkin an Ectopic because its not unusual in my family.Im Sooo scared can someone please help me?

Answer: If you still have not got a period, do a blood test- beta hcg. This will determine whether you are pregnant or not( including an ectopic pregnancy ). If you are not, take duphaston tablets- one tablet twice a day for 5 days. Once you get a period, have an ultrasound done to rule out the presence of an ovarian cyst , which can cause irregular periods and pain in the abdomen.

Question

I am 44 years old. Have had two children. My new husband and I have tried to conceive for the past 3 years. I found out I have uterine fibroids. My doctors says that it is not in an area that should affect implantation. She did say that my age is a big factor which I understand the risks and chances. For the past three or four months and not every month about a week before my period when I go to have a bowel movement and strain, I have red blood come out of both the rectum and vagina. Both very minimul and then it stops. Is this caused by the fibroids? Should I see my doctor for further evaluation? Thank you

Answer: You should ensure that you are not constipated.Take duphalac syrup and eat a lot of fibre for that. Also, check whether you have hemorrhoids. Regarding the spotting from the vagina 3-4 days prior to the period, that can be normal. However, have a vaginal examination done to rule out the presence of a vaginal or cervical infection or polyp. Regarding pregnancy, ensure that you are ovulating by doing an ultrasound on day 12 of the period. That would also determine your fertile period. If you are not ovulating, discuss with your doctor regarding clomid tablets. If you are ovulating, and do not get pregnant within another 2-3 months try IUI ( intra uterine insemination ) to increase your chances of conception. All the best !

Question

Hi! I've been experiencing headache, nausea and dizziness for more than a week now. went to a doctor and she told me that i might have vertigo or migraine. right now, the pain is still there though milder this time. also, im experiencing pain in my breasts (usually in the left side) as if it's being pricked by a needle. even my abdomen hurts sometimes. so im wondering if there's a possibility that i'm pregnant. i actually had a pregnancy blood test last week, but it was negative. my period was supposed to come around june 23-25 but it came last june 18, a few days earlier. i had the pregnancy blood test last june 25. was it too early too tell by then? pls help. thanks!

Answer: I could not answer your question earlier , as I was out of town. You must have got another period by now. If you still have breast pain, have your breasts examined to ensure that there are no masses or secretions . A beta hcg test would be positive 12 days after conception, so it would have been positive on 25th June, unless you ovulated late during that cycle.

Question

Hello Mam, I am having irregular periods.I have noticed that I bleed for 20 days in february and no bleeding occurs for 3 months after that.I am a thrombitis patient.Blood has clotted in my brain twice.I dint know that I shouldnt use contraceptive pills. Now I am not having periods since 4 months.I see that I am passing urine more frequently than normal, getting irritated very soon and having constipation.I want to have a baby but am scared that harmone treatement wouldnt be good for me.Please help

Answer: Check on ultrasound whether you have PCO ( polycystic ovaries ). This may give rise to irregular periods. If you are not ovulating , you would require medication to conceive, which is safe even with your history. However, careful monitoring is required. Take duphalac syrup and eat a lot of fibre for your constipation. Have a urine test done to rule out any urinary infection.

I m married 29 years my cycle is on time it always comes before 6-7 days & is only for 2-3 days some two days very less flow want to concive what to do

After every thing I have done the torch test there was minor problem i took medicine for 3 months. Now we trying last month 1 no result suggest for concieve

1. I realized that I had a funny smelly, nasty looking discharge and when I consulted doctors, I was informed that it was just a yeast infection. After reading magazines, I saw an STD (Chlamydia), and realized I have similar symptoms. I was tested and realized that I did have that STD. It was 1:582, was giving medication and six months after it came down to 1:282 and now 1 year after it is 1:32. Having this infection so long would prohibit me from having children. Can I correct this night mare (infertility).

2. Now I am bleeding non-stop and I was diagnose with hormone imbalance, I was giving Norcolut 5MG to be taken two twice daily for 21 days. Is this too long and how soon after my menstrual bleeding should regulated?
Thank you.

Answer: First of all, relax ! have your tubes checked by hysterosalpingography or laparoscopy, as Chlamydia could have caused tubal damage. If that is fine, you do not have to worry about that. Are you ovulating regularly? What is your husband's semen report ? Do you have fibroids or PCO ? Let me know all these , so I can advice you further.

Question

Hello, From the months of March through about May, I had a really strange pattern with my period. It would kind of come for a day or two really weak and than go away. And now all of a sudden In mid June, I got it for like 2 weeks straight. It went away for a little while (I'd say about 8 or 9 days) and than came back really strong, overnight. I have always had a bit of a strange cycle, but this has to have been the worst. I have a lot of pain down in my hips, and am not quite sure what's going on...

Answer: You must have an ultrasound done . Also, check your thyroid hormones. Let me know the results, so I can advice you further.

Question

Hello doctor, I am married for 3 years now.i had a miscarriage last year. now since jan07 we have been trying again but am not able to concieve. my doc has given ovafar 50mg. how does ovafar work? what are the days of maximum chances of conception(i have a regular cycle with 2 -3 days delay or early period)?

Answer: Ovofar helps to stimulate the ovaries to form " eggs ".( ovulate ).Have an ultrasound done on day 12 of the cycle to monitor when the follicle is 18 or 20 mm. This will determine your most fertile period. Usually the fertile period would be from day 11 to 18 , but this would change in different cycles and also change due to the clomid.

Question

I am 32 year old stays in mumbai and married since last two and a half months. I want to conceive. I am under treatment since last one and half years. Last month i took seven ovufol 150 injections. my husband's sperm counts also came out proper (50 millions). After my natural rupture of three mature folliclies i was advised for IUI (second). The first IUI failed probably my husband's sperm count was not proper or ???. The second IUI has also failed and now i m upset with the whole thing. This time doctor has advised me to consume ginette 35 tablets for 21 days and revert to her in next month after i get my period. doctor does it mean that i am suffering from PCOD? i underwent laproscopy in february 2007. no problem of tube block. polycyst were drilled. my weight is 66 kg. please guide.

Answer: First of all - relax ! Since you are ovulating and your tubes and husband's semen is normal, you should conceive. IUI has a success rate of around 25 % , so you may not conceive in the first two cycles. Try IUI for 6 cycles and you should be pregnant. If not, you may require ICSI. All the best !

Question

Hey, I have been on the Yasmin Pill for about 10 months now and it is great it has made my periods lighter & skin clearer e.t.c but just recently i went on holiday with my partner so i decided to keep taking the pill over the 21 day period and i did so for about 2 & half weeks. I have not yet had a period and i stopped taking the pill 4days ago. i took the pill everyday as told at the same time. Im also worrying about being pregnent so could that be delaying it aswel? Thank you for your help, i really appriciate it!

Answer: If you have taken the pill continuously, you could not be pregnant. the period might be slightly delayed and you must have got it by now. However,we usually advice one month break every year while on the pill.
